Job Summary
The eBeam technology represents a major breakthrough in packaging sterilisation, enabling high-speed production, reduced operational costs, and significant reductions in the use of chemicals, water, and energy. We are looking for talented people across multiple areas—Development, Engineering, Production, and Supplier Management—to help drive the evolution of our eBeam system for today’s and tomorrow’s filling equipment.
The Production Engineering Department designs, implements, and continuously improves manufacturing processes and production equipment, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality operations. It leads CAPEX and automation projects, supports daily production with engineering expertise, and drives industrialization and operational excellence across the site. Production Engineering department has end-to-end responsibility of the production process. We are hiring a Manager Industrial Engineering & Quality Assurance who will plan, develop, and implement CAPEX production equipment projects, including automated manufacturing systems and complete production equipment. The role ensures that new and upgraded production equipment meets technical, quality, capacity, cost, safety, and timing requirements, while supporting long‑term manufacturing strategy and operational excellence. The role also supports daily operations by providing engineering expertise to ensure stable and efficient manufacturing performance.
In this position the Manager Industrial Engineering & Quality Assurance will have end-to-end responsibility of the whole manufacturing process of eBeam lamps and CAPEX projects related to production equipment and automation. He/she will have engineering ownership of machine concepts, layouts, specifications, and acceptance, will have coordination of internal stakeholders and external suppliers during CAPEX projects, drives industrialization, series production readiness, and continuous improvement and will provide support of daily manufacturing operations and site management in resolving technical issues, stabilizing production processes, and improving operational performance.
This is a permanent position based in Modena, Italy. For knowledge transfer from Flamatt site, travel to Switzerland is required at the beginning of the assignment.
What you will do
CAPEX Project Management
- Lead production equipment CAPEX projects from concept to handover to operations
- Define technical requirements, budgets, timelines, and milestones
- Prepare and manage investment requests, cost tracking, and business cases
- Coordinate project execution with internal departments (Production, Quality, Maintenance, HSE, Purchasing)
- Ensure compliance with internal standards, safety regulations, and legal requirements
Production Equipment Engineering
- Develop or evaluate machine concepts, layouts, and automation solutions
- Translate product and process requirements into technical specifications and functional descriptions
- Support or lead supplier selection in cooperation with Purchasing
- Technically manage machine builders (Anlagebauer) and system integrators
- Review designs, drawings, risk assessments, and documentation
Automation & Industrialization
- Drive the implementation of automated production systems, robotics, and digital solutions
- Support process development and industrialization from R&D to series production
- Ensure equipment capability, repeatability, and scalability
- Define and perform FAT, SAT, commissioning, and ramp‑up activities
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure equipment compliance with CE marking, machinery directives, laser safety, and internal standards
- Integrate quality assurance requirements into equipment and processes
- Support risk assessments (e.g. FMEA)
- Ensure safe operation and ergonomics of production equipment
Handover & Continuous Improvement
- Organize structured handover to Production and Maintenance
- Train operators and maintenance personnel in cooperation with relevant functions
- Analyze equipment performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Support upgrades, retrofits, and optimization of existing production systems
Operations Support & Site Interface
- Support eBeam production operations in daily technical and process-related challenges
- Act as an engineering partner to Production and Site Management to ensure stable, efficient, and safe operations
- Troubleshoot process deviations, equipment issues, and performance losses in collaboration with Production, Maintenance, Production Engineering, Quality and Purchasing
- Provide quick and pragmatic engineering support to ensure minimum downtime and production continuity
- Translate operational issues into structured improvement actions or engineering solutions
- Support prioritization of technical topics in alignment with site management and operational targets (e.g., delivery, productivity, quality)
- Contribute to capacity planning, layout adjustments, and operational optimization initiatives
We believe you have
Educational and Professional Experience
- University degree (BSc/MSc) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a comparable technical field
- Alternatively, higher technical education (HF/FH) combined with extensive relevant experience
- Several years of experience in production engineering, industrial equipment projects and automation projects
- Proven experience managing CAPEX projects in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Experience with automation, robotics, or special machinery is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of production equipment, automation, and industrial machinery
- Experience with Production Equipment, machine builders, and system integrators
- Understanding of manufacturing processes (mechanical, electrical, joining, automation)
- Knowledge of robotics, PLC‑controlled systems, and industrial safety concepts
- Ability to read and create technical specifications, layouts, and engineering documentation
- Structured project management skills in a CAPEX environment
- Good English skills (spoken and written) required
People Management & Leadership Skills
- Lead, manage, and develop the production engineering team, including performance management, coaching, and succession planning
- Ensure clear goals, priorities, and accountability aligned with production targets (safety, quality, delivery, cost)
- Foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across the production engineering team
- Identify skill gaps and ensure training and qualification of employees, including onboarding of new team members
- Support and guide the team in daily operational challenges, decision-making, and problem solving
- Drive implementation of Lean principles (e.g. continuous improvement mindset) within the team
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, and promote a strong safety culture
- Manage and support change processes (e.g. new products, new equipment, process changes) from a people and operational perspective
- Provide structured feedback and conduct performance and development discussions
- Clear, structured, and transparent communication at all levels, from shop floor to management
- Strong ability to foster teamwork and create a collaborative, solution-oriented working environment
- Strong planning, prioritization, and coordination abilities in a complex production environment
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
