Senior Functional Engineer



The position is located at 600 Bunker Ct., Vernon Hills, IL 60061.

What you will do


As a Senior Functional Engineer, you will: 
 

Define design requirements for raw materials, process, byproducts and final products. Develop equipment, machinery layout, process function, and instrumentation diagrams. Design, specify, and calculate processing lines, equipment, storage units and their integration components and instruments. Calculate mass and energy balance and production time scheduling to quantify equipment and determine capacity, utilizing consumption estimation/calculation. Write process functional specifications and deliver relevant information to Automation Engineers designing automation and control systems. Ensure system design includes Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems and complies with customer specifications, company standards, and state or federal regulations. Coordinate and execute design reviews/risk assessments and take adequate measures to contain and mitigate possible issues. Communicate relevant information to Mechanical Engineers for design layout/installation models. Work with procurement department to purchase equipment, components, and installation material, and to coordinate scheduling, delivery, and lead time. Test equipment with product, adjust parameters and make corrections. Support customers on issues and document lessons learned for future projects. Provide detailed solutions in accordance with relevant local or international regulatory organizations (USDA, FDA, 3A, EU). Deliver training to operators and follow-up production until complete hand-over. Travel required: 30% of the time to various locations throughout the U.S. for customer sales support, start up and commissioning services, and project implementation.

Who you are


We believe you have: 
 

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Food Science and Engineering, or  related field, and five years of experience in process engineering or related field. In the alternative, a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Food Science and Engineering, or  related field, and three years of experience in process engineering or related field.
  • Experience with: 
    o    Troubleshooting installed machinery for the food and beverage industry;
    o    plant engineering, cross-functional problem solving, thermodynamics, and flow dynamics, including industry standards for process piping, equipment and installation;
    o    Sizing equipment and providing systems solutions in production planning; and
    o    Utilizing automation control applications, including functional descriptions, instrumentation applications, and system start-up/commissioning.
