Service Engineer


Help our customers in the Ice Cream Industry to solve problems and improve their production lines.
Tetra Pak has an opening for an experienced Service Engineer to fill a rewarding and challenging role that allows freedom with accountability while working directly with our Field Service Operations (FSO) team and customers. This role will include long term and short term assignments, and last minute service calls on all Tetra Pak equipment and components in the Ice Cream Industry. This position will report to our Services FSO department based in Toronto, Canada.
The FSO team delivers support to our internal team and external customers by providing on-site support for Tetra Pak Equipment in our customers' production facilities. We are looking for a customer-focused Service Engineer who has a dedication to quality and health and safety.

You can be home based anywhere in Canada or the US.
You will be travelling 90% of your time to our customer sites.
Tetra Pak is not sponsoring work visas or relocation for this position.

What you will do


As a Service Engineer you will:

  • Travel to customer sites in order to:
    • Conduct preventive maintenance activities in line with global Tetra Pak standard procedures and reinstate ice cream equipment into production environment according to defined expectations
    • Execute installation tasks, including the assembly of complete ice cream systems
    • Execute installation of relevant rebuilding/upgrade kits according to procedures and reinstate equipment into production environment according to defined expectations
  • Execute timely reporting of all discovered Technical Issues
  • Inform relevant Tetra Pak staff about ongoing service activities as well as of any issues affecting the customer or the quality of Tetra Pak service. Inform about any business opportunity discovered at the customer through the relevant channels
  • Act as an ambassador for Tetra Pak at all times, ensuring and promoting good working relationships with the customer and ensure that Tetra Pak’s reputation is sustained
  • Execute and complete all relevant reports in an accurate and timely way. Distribute reports according to existing procedures and ensure that proper handover is done
  • Execute all work in accordance with Tetra Pak and Customer safety regulations and requirements
  • Execute all work in accordance with Tetra Pak standards and requirements regarding product quality and food safety. Escalate all discovered food safety, quality assurance and regulatory issues
  • Conduct on-site/off-site Operator and Mechanical training for internal Tetra Pak and customer personnel
  • Maintain Issue resolution database
  • Perform troubleshooting and fault-finding services onsite and by phone
  • Install set-up and support through remote support when off-site
  • Conduct regular time entry, service reporting and e-mail correspondence
  • Provide emergency phone support and on-demand service for the 24-hour support line on a rotational basis
  • Obtain and maintain key certifications on key components and modules
  • Submit all travel and expenses for reimbursement with attention to detail, timeliness and accuracy
Who you are


We believe you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Technical Degree or Certification in an Engineering or related discipline or equivalent skills and experience
  • Relevant work experience in manufacturing equipment installation, controls/automation, maintenance and/or service work
  • Ideally some experience in the Ice Cream or Dairy Industry
  • Ability to read and understand process flow diagrams and schematics
  • Some understanding of automation systems such as Allen Bradley frequency drives, Profibus, Siemens PLC programming software, Rockwell RSLogix 5, 500, 5000 PLC programming software, Intouch (WonderWare), Device Net, ABB, Danfoss frequency drives or similar
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to handle multiple stakeholders with a customer focused mindset
  • A commitment to a strong quality culture as well as a strong health and safety culture
  • A fluent level of writing and speaking English, knowledge of French is a plus
