Job Summary

 

We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Automation and Electrical Engineering Team, based in our Hamilton office.

 

This role is suited to an experienced engineer who takes ownership of large and complex projects end‑to‑end, contributes strongly to project pricing and commercial decision‑making, and plays a key role in developing less experienced engineers. You will act as a technical authority and trusted adviser within the team and to our customers.

Along with strong technical capability, we are seeking someone with excellent communication skills who can confidently represent the Tetra Pak brand and add value to our customers – who are at the heart of all we do.

You will be part of a collaborative and sociable processing team delivering solutions primarily within the food and dairy industry.


The position is based in Hamilton, NZ

 

You will be travelling 20-30% of your time to our customer sites.

 

Tetra Pak is not sponsoring work visas or relocation for this position. 

What you will do

 

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will:

 

  • Work both independently and as part of a multi disciplined team to develop Electrical solutions based on either Tetra Pak or customer specific standards
  • Take a proactive role in project pricing, cost estimation, and scope definition, supporting bids and proposals with robust technical and commercial inputs
  • Lead the electrical engineering scope on medium to large projects, from concept and feasibility through to commissioning and handover
  • Ensure customer requirements are clearly understood, challenged where appropriate, and successfully delivered
  • Coordinate and manage electrical project delivery from design through to implementation with our sub-contractors.
  • Procure equipment and engage sub-contractors required to deliver engineered solutions
  • Lead and participate in technical discussions and design reviews with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers, contributing to their capability development and confidence
  • Support and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, tools, and ways of working
  • Travel to support the pricing and delivery of our projects
  • Act as an ambassador for Tetra Pak

We believe you have

 

  • Proven experience delivering electrical design and build projects across the full project lifecycle
  • Demonstrated capability in pricing projects, developing cost estimates, and managing technical risk during tender and execution phases
  • Strong understanding of AS/NZS Wiring Regulations and applicable electrical standards
  • Experience commissioning electrical systems in a production or industrial environment
  • Experience delivering large or complex capital projects, including subcontractor and supplier management
  • Ability to provide technical guidance, mentoring, and informal leadership within an engineering team
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with customers, project managers, and senior stakeholders
  • An approachable and professional manner that builds trust with customers and colleagues
  • Project management skills and the self-drive to work autonomously
  • Food and beverage industry exposure is preferred
  • Understanding of PLC/HMI hardware selection and integration
  • Exposure to Hazardous Area Design and Functional Safety Design
  • A university degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • New Zealand or Australian residency with full working rights
