Job Summary

 

In this position, you will lead the implementation of Collection and Sorting strategy in Mexican Market. 


Areas of focus will be:

 

  • developing collection and recycling programs for post-consumer carton packages, interacting with internal and external stakeholders on collection and recycling of beverage containers
  • develop frequently market competitiveness analysis of different packaging formats
  • visualize and mapping of the collection and sorting value chain of Mexico
  • based on the new regulation of the circular economy law, propose action plans to deploy together with the corporate affairs teams to ensure packaging legislation has a level playing field for all packaging formats
  • calculate expected EPR fees for collection of different packaging formats
  • helping Tetra Pak strengthen its credentials as a thought leader in collection and recycling knowledge 

 

The position is preferred to be based in Mexico City, Mexico, in our offices located in Polanco, but we are open to consider any of the Tetra Pak offices located in Mexico.    
Up to 50% of your time will be required to travel to collection and sorting plants, meeting with industry association and governmental meetings to discuss technical topics of Extended Producer Responsibility concept.
Tetra Pak is not sponsoring work visas or relocation for this position.

 

What you will do

 

As a Collection & Sorting Manager Mexico, you will:

 

  • Develop self-sustainable collection and recycling programs for post-consumer carton packages via trade organizations or in partnership with Tetra Pak customers
  • Develop frequently market competitiveness analysis of different packaging formats 
  • Lead and develop clear material flow costing in the recycling value chain together with competitive analysis of different packaging formats
  • Visualize and mapping of the collection and sorting value chain of Mexico
  • Deploy action plans together with the corporate affairs teams to ensure packaging legislation has a level playing field for all packaging formats
  • Initiate and own any recycling and/or collection investment projects. Define need and business case. Monitor project development, installation, commissioning, and performance and report results. Use project management methodologies to drive those projects
  • Support our customers and engage them with the best method to comply with the Circular Economy Regulations
  • Secure compliance with local collection/recycling regulation/targets as applicable. Work hand in hand with Corporate Affairs by providing technical knowledge on extended producer responsibility concept and ensuring that market-related recycling realities are applied to any proposed legislation.  
  • Propose and lead the technical advocacy team required to ensure favorable legislation towards cartons, all aligned with Corporate Affairs team 
  • Secure reliable and timeline accounting and reporting of collection/recycling rates.
  • You will lead a change management project to focus the extended team members in a new recently approved strategy that has a different mindset from the previous one
  • Engage in thought leadership forums, trade shows, webinars, and other activities to confidently promote Tetra Pak’s holistic sustainability story with emphasis on EPR knowledge
  • Streamline information of collection and recycling in Mexico into a data repository. 
  • Prepare and lead internal and external audits to recycling reporting data 
  • Prepare monthly updates of collection and recycling strategy to internal stakeholders

 

We believe you have

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Environmental Engineering or similar with a master’s degree or post graduate studies in collection and sorting of packaging waste
  • MBA is highly recommended 
  • A passionate interest in collection and recycling of beverage packaging who wants to create the best system for Mexico
  • Minimum 7-8 years’ experience in waste management sector, mainly in collection and sorting of beverage containers, experience interacting with municipalities and the solid waste industry 
  • Deep knowledge of solid waste management and EPR/Circular Economy regulations, especially in Mexico
  • Proven experience in collection and sorting projects (working directly at any material recovery facility (MRFs) or in a waste management company)
  • Proven knowledge of EPR regulations by participating in material flow analysis, calculation of ecofees, etc
  • Proficient with MSOffice (MS Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).  You must prove outstanding power point presentations, including not only a great design for the slides but also present the information in a creative and easy to digest way.  You can develop pivot tables in Excel to compile a lot of data and create interactive dashboards with a lot of information.
  • You know and understand Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and can have technical discussions on the subject
  • You have knowledge of PowerBI and can create some reports using it.
  • You have proven experience in conducting a change management in your previous role, introducing a new methodology, concept, mindset etc. to a team
  • Able to connect potential packaging legislative impacts to business
  • Highly proficient in English language skills both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work under pressure both independently as well as in cross functional teams
