VAT Compliance Controller


Assist the Central VAT Compliance team with indirect tax compliance reporting services provided to Tetra Pak entities globally & in the Americas cluster to ensure VAT/GST returns are submitted accurately and on time. This also includes assistance with some local and cross border transactions concerning goods and services and supporting management with driving global VAT alignment improvement initiatives. Contribute to execute day to day tasks within the VAT Compliance department.

The position is based in Panama City, Panama.

Tetra Pak is not sponsoring work visas or relocation for this position. 

What you will do


As a VAT Compliance Controller you will: 


  • Assist with preparation/reconciliation and timely submission of correct VAT/GST/intrastat returns and EC Sales listing’s on a global scale (including a review function)
  • Support the indirect tax compliance & Withholding tax obligations for the local market company in Panama and a select number of other Central American countries 
  • Assist with ensuring efficient working of VAT compliance process (including ITC tool process)
  • Assist with timely running of intrastat preparation reports and follow up with local Tetra Pak sites
  • Assist with purchase and sales ledgers, billing and other ad hoc admin duties
  • Assist with VAT queries from Tetra Pak local sites (local tax experts), external consultants/accountants and/or internal colleagues and assist with managing volumes of e-mail queries
  • Assist colleagues with response to VAT queries and requests from the tax authorities in all jurisdictions including support to management on solution of findings of external VAT audits
  • Assist internal/external colleagues on important issues/queries. Some support to local tax experts with respect to VAT return preparations and account clearing
  • Support with any fee related tasks (both paid and recharged within the group)
  • Assist Global Head of VAT Compliance with day-to-day tasks required to run the business effectively, i.e., legislative research, review and translation of important documents, administrative support etc
  • Ensure that country specific VAT info sheets and internal procedure documents are corrected and continually kept up to date
  • Printing and archiving of key correspondence and important documents when required

Who you are


We believe you have: 


  • Minimum 2-4 years accountancy experience is a requirement to be considered for this role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxes or related fields. 
  • Previous experience in VAT is a plus
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is essential
  • Can demonstrate strong listening and communication skills both written and oral
  • Attention to detail is essential
  • Ability to work effectively to deadlines
  • Ability to working effectively in a global team-based environment
  • Ability to manage and organize own workload
  • Ability to handle administration tasks simultaneously and set priorities
  • Some ERP knowledge (preferably SAP) is essential
  • Some knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint is essential
