Job Summary
We are looking for a passionate and engaged Recycling/Sustainability Manager who will contribute to the implementation of recycling & sustainability programmes in Turkey, reporting to the Sustainability Director Middle East & Africa.
Main focus in this role is to develop collection and recycling programmes for post-consumer beverage cartons, so it is expected that you will be driving strong engagement and development of partnerships with key stakeholders in the Waste Management and Recycling sectors.
This position will be based in İstanbul with approximately 30% local travel within Central Eurasia required.
What you will do
- Main focus is on developing collection and recycling programmes for post-consumer beverage cartons packages, either independently or in collaboration with key stakeholders in the recycling value chain.
- Manage local recycling and/ or collection programmes incl. investment projects, (preparing feasibility studies, business cases and presenting to the higher management for approvals).
- Drive activities towards the achievement of defined KPI’s for collection and recycling, including the monitoring of collection/ sorting/ recycling projects development, installation, commissioning, and performance validation.
- Secure compliance with local collection/ recycling regulations/ targets as applicable (focus on EPR – Extended Producer Responsibility and DRS – Deposit Return Systems).
- Secure reliable accounting and reporting of collection/recycling rates with proper documentation and following the company’s reporting guidelines.
- Help driving the Sustainability Transformation in the markets, providing feedback and assisting on Tetra Pak’s Customers’ needs.
We believe you have
- Degree is preferred (preferably in Engineering/ Environment/ Sustainability field).
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant work experience in sustainability and waste management/ recycling focused roles, preferably in the Food & Beverage industry.
- Excellent spoken and written English & Turkish.
- Experienced in waste management, collection, sorting & recycling.
- Strategic, forward-thinking mindset, with openness and ability to be involved both in high level meetings with higher management/ local key stakeholders (including but not limited to government representatives and policy makers) and on operational hands-on/ on-the-ground tasks.
- Knowledge of waste management regulations, DRS and EPR legislation schemes.
- Experience in advocacy, communication, sustainability strategy execution is a plus.
- Experience in leading and managing projects and ability to work independently.
- Good understanding of financials is a plus.
- Proactiveness, drive, self-motivation and focus on delivering results.
- Ability to think out of the box, entrepreneur approach, business-oriented and willingness to participate in creation of innovative solutions.
- Excellent presentation skills, diplomacy, and tact.
- Strong team player with good interpersonal skills.
- Stakeholder engagement is required at all levels (e.g., collectors, waste pickers, recyclers, government, industry players, corporates, etc.)
