Automation Engineer


We are looking for an experienced Automation Engineer, to be based in our Macro Automation Auckland office, focusing primarily on the Dairy and Beverage industries.

As an Automation Engineer you will lead the automation project delivery of customised technical solutions in line with our parent company, Tetra Pak’s, strategy, standards, guidelines, tools and methods for automation design.



What you will do

As an Automation Engineer, you will:
- Develop technical automation solutions
- Coordinate and manage automation project delivery
- Lead small to medium sized project’s, but also work independently at times
- Provide support with technical issues
- Lead technical discussions with customers and suppliers
- Validate / review technical solutions for engineering
- Act as an ambassador for Macro Automation / Tetra Pak
- Travel to support the delivery of your projects.
- Be involved from quotation through design, development, and final delivery.



Who you are

We believe you have:
- Proven ability to deliver on Automation projects
- A good understanding of relevant Automation systems / processes
- Strong leadership skills, & a willingness to support and grow junior team members
- Established collaboration & project management skills
- Strong communication & presentation skills
- Proven performance with a strong track record, ideally over 2 or more years
- An open approach, with the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders across multiple geographies
- A University Degree or other Tertiary Qualification in automation engineering, software/mechatronics engineering or electrical/electronic engineering
- Experience in the food and beverage manufacturing industry is preferred
- Basic process engineering knowledge (able to interpret P&ID’s)
- Ability to read/write/mark up functional descriptions
- Willingness to continuously learn and take on new challenges
- Skills in multiple PLC platforms such as:
                 - Rockwell RSLogix
                 - Schneider Unity
                 - Siemens
- Skills in multiple HMI platforms such as:
                 - Wonderware Intouch/System Platform
                 - FTView
- Experience with SQL and an understanding of basic database concepts is a plus
- Knowledge of older legacy PLC languages is a plus
- Skills in other programming languages such as Go, C# is a plus
- Familiarity with industrial network setup and design
- Ability to create tools and automate tasks to increase efficiency and accuracy of coding
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Experience in commissioning automation solutions and working in a factory environment
- Experience in software simulation / Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) 
- Expert in Microsoft Excel
