Job Summary
We are looking for a VAT Compliance Controller to join our Tax Ops and the Indirect Tax & Technology center of excellence, with VAT compliance reporting services, provided to Tetra Pak entities globally by:
- ensuring VAT returns are submitted accurately and on time,
- including assistance in all type of local and cross border transactions with complex requirements concerning goods and services,
- supporting management with driving global VAT alignment improvement initiatives,
- contributing to execute day to day tasks within the VAT Compliance department,
- supporting colleagues and assuming polyvalence for VAT Compliance activities.
The position is based in Arganda del Rey - Spain. Some international travels are required from time to time.
What you will do
- Overall assistance with VAT compliance obligations of Tetra Pak Group entities with specific focus on the EMEA region i.e., assistance with preparation/reconciliation and timely submission of correct VAT, Intrastat returns and EC Sales listing’s (including a review function)
- Assist with ensuring efficient working of VAT compliance process (including external ITC tool process), timely running of Intrastat preparation reports and follow up with local Tetra Pak sites in EMEA and beyond.
- Assist the team with the tax technology process, i.e., finding efficiency gains, cost savings and process improvements through tax technology initiatives (internal & external)
- Assist with VAT queries from Tetra Pak local sites (local tax experts), external consultants and/or internal colleagues and assist with managing volumes of e-mail queries.
- Assist with response to VAT queries and requests from the tax authorities, including support to management on solution of findings of external VAT audits.
- Assist with purchase and sales ledgers, billing, and other ad hoc admin duties.
- Ensure follow up with internal/external stakeholders regarding important issues/queries.
- Ensure that country specific VAT info sheets and internal procedure documents are corrected and continually kept up to date.
- Coordinate tax activities with external outsourcing partner (e.g., Deloitte) and support with any fee related tasks (both paid and recharged within the group)
- Assist Indirect Tax Manager with day-to-day tasks required to run the business effectively, and in particular in EMEA, i.e, Legislative research, confirmation of VAT treatment applicable, review and translation of important documents, administrative support etc.
We believe you have
As a minimum, 3-5 years VAT experience is a requirement to be considered for this role and it is a further advantage to have previous experience in finance or accounting such as a bookkeeping role. You must be passionate about delivering a quality service to internal “clients”, have a genuine interest in finance/accounting/taxes and have experience of working with external stakeholders.
Specific key requirements are as follows:
- Accounting/finance/business degree
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience gained in VAT Compliance from a previous role.
- Fluency in English is essential, and ability to speak another language is an advantage (French/Spanish, others).
- Can demonstrate strong listening and communication skills both written and oral.
- Strong attention to detail is also essential.
- Ability to work effectively to deadlines.
- Ability to working effectively in a global team-based environment.
- Ability to manage and organize own workload.
- Ability to handle many tasks simultaneously and set priorities.
- ERP knowledge (preferably SAP) is essential.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint is essential.
